Autumn has arrived! While saying goodbye to summer might be a bit hard for some, it’s prudent to consider preparing your vehicle for the upcoming fall season. With road conditions and temperatures undergoing transformations, we offer you four valuable tips to ensure your vehicle’s readiness. Take a moment to peruse our tips below, and when the time is right, make sure to arrange your service appointment with our expert team. Additionally, remember to seize a service special prior to your visit to enhance your experience!

Destination Kia’s Autumn Service Tips:

Car Battery:

  • As the seasons transition rapidly, now presents an ideal opportunity to visit our team for diagnostic testing, guaranteeing the vitality of your battery as it confronts the impending winter chill. Additionally, request an assessment of your cables and terminals to identify any corrosion and ensure their secure fastening. Winter’s harsh conditions can be particularly taxing on batteries, making it prudent to drop by and have your battery meticulously serviced prior to the seasonal shift.

Headlights

  • Over time, the headlights of our vehicles can lose their clarity and develop a cloudy or hazy appearance, particularly for cars exposed to outdoor elements. With daylight hours diminishing, we rely more heavily on our headlights, underscoring the significance of maintaining their optimal brightness. Whether it involves headlight conditioning, bulb replacement, or an entire headlight replacement, our team is fully equipped to address all your requirements and ensure your headlights shine brilliantly.

Tires

  • Safety-conscious driving begins with your tires. Regular monthly checks of your tread depth can help you proactively monitor when tire replacement is necessary. If you observe that your tread depth is less than ⅛-inch, it’s a clear indicator that it’s time for an upgrade. While all-season tires might seem initially cost-effective, opting for a set designed for both summer and winter guarantees a comprehensive and balanced performance. Feel free to visit our team – we’re here to guide you in selecting the ideal tires tailored to your vehicle’s needs.

Wipers

  • Were you aware that replacing your wipers every six months is a smart choice? Generally, it’s advisable to change your wipers twice annually to maintain optimal functionality. With the fall season approaching, consider upgrading your wipers, opting for a pair designed specifically to tackle winter conditions, which are fast approaching. Moreover, to prolong the longevity of your wipers, we recommend giving them a regular cleaning using a paper towel and glass cleaner whenever you make a pit stop for refueling.

Things are heating up here in Albany this summer and we want to help you get the most out of your vehicle and mileage! This week we have a variety of fuel economy tips to help you steer clear of the pump and behind the wheel! Take a look at our five most important fuel economy tips below and stop in to see our team to service your current vehicle or to upgrade into a brand new, more fuel-efficient Kia! Perhaps a hybrid? Who knows! Come see us and let our team help you choose your next, new Kia!

Get Regular Oil Changes

  • A quick oil change can really help boost your fuel efficiency. Dirty, old engine oil can decrease your fuel efficiency greatly. Thick, sludgy oil makes your engine burn more energy which makes your fuel economy go down.

Maintain Proper Tire Pressure

  • Keeping your tires at the proper inflation levels is a simple way to improve your gas mileage in the summer months. In fact, you can improve your gas mileage by up to 3% by keeping your tires at the proper PSI levels.

Avoid Aggressive Driving

  • If you’re the type of driver that weaves in and out of traffic, speeds up and slows down erratically, we’re here to tell you to knock that off. In fact, rapid acceleration can negatively affect your highway fuel economy by up to 33%. And even your city economy by 5%. So slow down and take your time!

Reduce Your Speed

  • We’re all guilty of having a heavy foot when we’re out and about on the road. But we want you to slow down because every 5 MPH over 50 is like paying $0.20 per gallon. So slow down and travel the speed limit. Plus, slower speeds are safer!

Don’t Idle Your Engine

  • We understand that in sweltering summer temperatures, you’ll want to turn your vehicle on to get the A/C pumping. But by keeping your engine idling, you’re wasting your own dollars and you’re not even going anywhere! So start up the car and hit the road!

Whether you’re looking to spend summer behind the wheel of a brand new Kia hatchback, SUV, or all-electric model we have plenty of options for you to choose from right here at Destination Kia this July! We know you need a reliable vehicle that will make it to all of your vacation destinations this season! But, you don’t want to have to use money you’ve earmarked for your next adventure! Let me set the scene, you’re out on the open road, windows down, music up and all of a sudden your vehicle starts making a weird noise and your vehicle starts to slow down. You pull over to the side of the road, smoke is pouring out of your engine and you’re not sure what’s happening. Or maybe you blew out a tire. Either way, this is not how you wanted to be spending your summer road trip and now you’re regretting not stopping in to see us to service your Kia before you left for your trip. No worries though because luckily, you haven’t left yet and there’s still time to service your ride! In fact, this week we have a few summer car care tips to help get you through the summer and ensure that you steer clear of any breakdowns! Check them out below and be sure to schedule your appointment today!

Make sure your battery is prepared for high temps

  • Many people think battery issues only happen in the wintertime but that’s not true. In fact, extreme temperatures have an impact on your battery, no matter if it is the heat or the cold. Heat and vibration are your battery’s worst enemy which will lead to an internal breakdown and eventual failure. So, make sure your battery is securely fastened in your vehicle, properly cleaned, and charged ready to go.

Keep your tires properly inflated

  • Your tires should always be filled to proper PSI levels, but driving on under-inflated tires can cause tires to overheat and eventually blow out which is extremely dangerous to yourself, your passengers, and other drivers. Make a note to check your tire’s PSI at least once a month (even the spare) and be sure to do so when they are cold for the best, most accurate reading.

Keep your engine cool

  • An overheated engine is very common in the hot, summer heat. But if you keep your coolant at the proper levels and periodically flush out your engine, the chances of your engine overheating are slim! If you choose to top off your coolant yourself, be sure to let your vehicle cool down and NEVER open your radiator cap when the engine is hot!

Inspect what’s under the hood

  • Oftentimes, we forget about all the components that are working hard under the hood to help get us to where we want to be during the summer months! Well, we’re here to remind you to give them a look over. Check on your engine’s hoses, drive belts, and anything susceptible to heat-related deterioration. These things can lead to a breakdown which is what we’re trying to avoid. So, spend a few minutes when your vehicle is cool & make sure there are no cracks, soft spots, or any other signs of poor condition!
