Destination Kia and the Morrells donated the Morrell Science Center Building. The Morrell Science Center encompasses the chemistry department and most parts of the biology department. The 55,000-sq. ft. facility includes:
- 10 teaching labs.
- 24 research labs.
- 3 electronically enhanced classrooms.
- The Morrell Family Scholarship: The Morrell Family Scholarship is awarded annually to an upper class student who exhibits James J. Morrell ‘66 active involvement in community service endeavors a commitment to his fellow man. The scholarship was established by James and Kathleen Morrell in honor of their families. Awards are based on financial need and academic eligibility and may be renewed.
- The Morrell Family Scholarship for Broadcast Journalism/Communications: The Morrell Family Scholarship for Broadcast Journalism Communications is awarded annually to students who exhibit James J. Morrell’s ‘66 active involvement in community service endeavors and commitment to his fellow man. The scholarship was established by James and Kathleen Morrell in honor of their families. Awards will be given to students in the School of Business and School of Liberal Arts with an interest in pursuing a career in some aspect of Broadcast Journalism/Communications.
A percentage of every new Kia that Destination Kia sells is donated to St. Jude Research Hospital. That donation amount is matched by Kia. In addition, Destination Kia supports the local fundraising for St. Jude.
In 2009, when the Morrells found out the Blue Star Mothers were using their personal, unheated garages to pack their freedom boxes, they knew they needed help. Since then, the Morrells have provided Blue Mothers with approximately 2,000 square feet of commercial space, complete with kitchen and restrooms, free of charge to store and organize their donations and pack the Freedom Care boxes to send to military members from the Capital Region.
The Morrells cover all the taxes, utilities, and expenses associated with the space.

James and Megan Morrell of Destination Kia launched the Charity Challenge, inviting all local charities, schools, or nonprofit organizations to upload a 5-second video to destinationkia.com saying “Go Kooky for Kia at Destination Kia. Puppies and Babies not Included.”

James and Megan Morrell were thrilled that the Charity Challenge was a huge success again in 2024. While their original commitment was $20,000, because of the overwhelming number of submissions and enthusiasm, they ended up donating a total of $42,000 to local charities and sports teams.
*All qualifying entrants in 2024 Charity Contest received a minimum $500 donation for entering the contest.

Since 2015, the Morrells and their businesses including Destination Kia have donated over $30,000 direct to the school district and to the PTA’s. In addition, their businesses donated over 1000 customized fabric masks and 12 IQ Air Hospital Air Purifiers during the pandemic.

In 2025 Destination Kia and the Morrells donated $5,400 to the Shaker Booster Club to cover the costs of the Championship Rings given to the NY State Champion Boys Basketball Team.
