The snow has fallen here in Albany, and that means your car has been working overtime to keep up with the conditions and the chilly temperatures. This week, we want to tell you about a few car fluids that you should be checking up on every now and again. If it’s been a while, stop in to see our team and let us take care of them for you!

Engine Oil

  • In order to keep the moving parts in your engine lubricated, your vehicle needs oil. Without that oil, you will do some damage to your engine and could be looking at a hefty repair bill or having to replace your engine. You can choose to check the oil yourself or leave it to a professional which we recommend if you’re new under the hood.

Radiator Fluid

  • We hope you know that radiator fluid goes in your radiator…. It also keeps your engine from overheating (which is VERY important). If you run low or out, you run the chance of overheating your engine, again leaving you with a hefty bill. We recommend leaving this to the professionals but if you choose to do it yourself, DO NOT open the tank while the engine is running or hot!

Power Steering Fluid

  • Much like your vehicle’s engine, your power steering system has to be lubricated at all times and if it doesn’t both your steering and wheel control will be lost. Which is not good. This is one of the easier fluids to fill, so if you’re low, take out your owner’s manual and do it yourself!

Brake Fluid

  • Everything is go, go, go… and eventually, we want to stop. And that’s where your brake fluid comes in to play – this fluid is designed to assist with braking, so we’re sure you know why this one is important. Check out your vehicle’s owner manual for directions on adding brake fluid to your vehicle. And make sure you’re taking a look at the color too. If it’s dark – have a mechanic replace ASAP.

If you’re ready to get behind the wheel of a new vehicle this January, we’re ready to help! This week we are breaking it down for you and helping you with the things you will need when you stop in to pick up/ purchase your new ride. Check those out below and hurry in to see our team for a test drive in what could be your new Kia!

Your form of payment:

  • Your form of payment can either be a check from a bank or credit union for a preapproved loan.
  • When it comes to handling financing or your down payment, it can be in the form of a cashier’s check, personal check or a credit card payment.

The title for your trade-in vehicle:

  • If you are trading in a vehicle, you will need proof that you own it. Bring in the title, sometimes known as the pink slip, that shows you are the owner of the vehicle.
  • If there is a co-signer or a lien against the title or vehicle, be sure to get the required signature ahead of time to save you some time at the dealership.

Current vehicle registration for trade-in:

  • If you are trading in a vehicle, bring in a copy of your current registration.
  • Be sure to verify that the registration is current and that the sticker is on the license plate.

Proof of car insurance:

  • In order to let you drive your new ride home, you need car insurance on your new vehicle. Call ahead and set up the new insurance policy if you know which car you are buying before stopping in will help the process move faster.
  • If you choose to call at the dealership, give your insurance company the new car’s vehicle identification number (VIN) and ask your insurer to fax or email an insurance card to us!

The account number for your loan:

  • If you are trading in the vehicle you previously owned which still has an unpaid loan, you will need to bring the loan’s account number.

Rebate eligibility documents:

  • We offer a lot of great deals and incentives here at Destination Kia and if you want to take advantage of specific deals, such as a military or recent college graduate rebate, be sure to bring along supporting documents. You will need these documents in order to get the savings!

The holidays have come and gone, well, not all of them. But we know that your trunk is bursting at the seams thanks to all of the fabulous gifts that you have received. The paper is piling up, the gift bags are out of control, and your candy canes are being crushed and scattered around the trunk. What better way to head into the New Year than with a clean and organized trunk. This week we are sharing with you our go-to guide on how to get your trunk organized and keep it that way. Take a look at our guide below and get out to your ride to get started!

The first step is to get clean and get your vehicle ready to be organized. I like to start by removing all the items from my trunk and even take it a step further and empty out the cabin, as well. Separate your items into three piles, one you plan to keep in your vehicle, another you plan to throw away, and a third you plan to rehome somewhere outside of your vehicle.

Once your vehicle is empty, spend some time cleaning the actual fabric and interior of your trunk. Whether you are planning to go in-depth with a cleaning solution and soap or just a little vacuuming, take the time to show your trunk some TLC. If your trunk is smelling a little funky, try adding an air freshener to your trunk.

Now, it’s time to organize. I like to use organization bins to keep all of my items from rolling around my trunk. Shower caddies are a great option to keep items like car fluids and small objects together and straight up so they don’t leak or open up. If you have the option for a cargo net in your vehicle, it’s a great option to invest in. Keep your things from rolling around or hindering your trunk from closing.

Are you ready to organize now? We sure hope so! Get outside and get started; if you have questions or need additional ideas, stop in or give us a call and we can help you order organization parts!

Whether you are planning to stay in and party or head to your family residence for the holidays, start the party with a great playlist! Not sure where to start? No worries – that is what we are here for! We have your holiday playlist started right here on this week’s blog! So, take a look and if your vehicle is in desperate need of a little service TLC this December, stop in to see us or schedule your service appointment today!

12 Car Care Tips of Christmas!

  1. Inspect your vehicle on a daily basis. A simple analysis of your vehicle can help you prevent major breakdowns or other potential hazards.
  2. Learn the difference of warning lights and what they mean.
  3. Check tire tread and depth, rotate when the time is right. This will make driving in the winter weather safer and give you better gas mileage.
  4. Keep track of ALL fluid levels and make sure they’re properly filled.
  5. Got filters? Replace them. No one likes a dirty filter!
  6. Give detailing a try but ALWAYS use superior supplies. Better supplies = better results.
  7. Check on your battery. Check connections, terminals, and show them some TLC by cleaning them when corrosion is present.
  8. Replace your windshield wipers. Your vision while driving isn’t something to play with; spend the money on good wipers.
  9. Stick to the octane rating recommended by your car manufacturer. Proper octane rating = better gas mileage.
  10. Replace the spark plugs. If your vehicle has a difficult time starting, especially in chilly temperatures, try replacing spark plugs.
  11. Get an alignment! Trust us, it’s worth the money to have your vehicle aligned and driving straight.
  12. CLEAN YOUR BABY! A clean car is a happy car, and that turns into a happy drive!
