Your form of payment: Your form of payment can either be a check from a bank or credit union for a preapproved loan. When it comes to handling financing or your down payment, it can be in the form of a cashier's check, personal check or a credit card payment. The title for your trade-in vehicle: If you are trading in a vehicle, you will need proof that you own it. Bring in the title, sometimes known as the pink slip, that shows you are the owner of the vehicle. If there is a co-signer or a lien against the title or vehicle, be sure to get the required signature ahead of time to save you some time at the dealership. Current vehicle registration for trade-in: If you are trading in a vehicle, bring in a copy of your current registration. Be sure to verify that the registration is current and that the sticker is on the license plate. Proof of car insurance: In order to let you drive your new ride home, you need car insurance on your new vehicle. Call ahead and set up the new insurance policy if you know which car you are buying before stopping in will help the process move faster. If you choose to call at the dealership, give your insurance company the new car's vehicle identification number (VIN) and ask your insurer to fax or email an insurance card to us! The account number for your loan: If you are trading in the vehicle you previously owned which still has an unpaid loan, you will need to bring the loan's account number. Living in Upstate NY can be a bit of a pain in the butt. Especially when those temperatures start to change drastically or without a warning. One of the worst weather conditions we face here in Upstate has to be the rain. You’re probably wondering why I am hating on the rain. And, well I am not but rain makes mud and mud gets you stuck. Who wants that? No one, that’s who. But in these crazy ever-changing weather conditions, sometimes our vehicles do end up getting stuck in the mud. This week, we are here to tell you to relax, take a deep breath, and let us share with you our top tricks to getting your vehicle unstuck from this muddy situation. So, keep calm and read on! If you feel your vehicle beginning to sink or get stuck - don’t stop. Continue a constant pressure on the gas pedal. Hopefully, this will be the only thing you need to do to get out of the mud. You’ll want to avoid bringing your vehicle to a complete stop, your vehicle will be stuck and you’ll have to take other extensive measures to get out. Sorry, Charlie! Rock it back and forth - literally. Once you’re stuck, you’re stuck and it’s time to do some maneuvering. While gently pressing on your gas pedal, shift between drive and reverse. This will begin to create a rocking motion and may free your vehicle. If you’re not free after a few times, move on. Adding traction increases your chances of getting unstuck greatly. Whether you are willing to use your floor mats, blankets, extra clothing you have in your vehicle or random items like leaves, sticks or rocks - traction is the reason you’re stuck and you need to regain that traction to get out of the mud. Place your items in front of your tires and slowly accelerate. If you have a few passengers, asking them to push might be a good idea! Dig it out! If you keep a small shovel in your vehicle, you’re a genius. If not, you’re probably part of the majority. Regardless, you want to try to dig out the mud from around your tires and try to create a clean, clear path back to solid ground. Once your path is clear, hop in and gently accelerate. If this doesn’t seem to work, it might be time to phone a friend! If you’ve passed through these tricks and your vehicle is still stuck, it is most definitely time to call for assistance whether it is a friend with a pickup truck or a towing service. If you have roadside assistance, give them a call and let them do the work for you. Either way, it’s important to be safe and seek help when you need it most or when you’re losing sunlight. Even though winter’s just about over, there’s still time to make a change! We recommend, as a cure for that cabin fever you’ll be feeling soon, a good old-fashioned garage cleanout! Take a look at the steps to revamp your space and you’ll be all, “what? It was that easy?” The first thing is to have a garage, which hopefully you’ve got if you’re reading this blog. The next thing is to take EVERYTHING out of that garage. Literally everything. Car, junk, trash, stuff you need… get it all outside into the driveway or onto your lawn and leave your garage totally empty. Now, sort everything you’ve just taken out into two piles, one for things that you want to keep and one for things that you’ve been meaning to throw away/forgot about/are just trash. Throw those things away right now. Dispose of chemicals like paint safely, but just get it GONE. With your garage empty, you should give it a nice sweep and vacuum. You’ll probably spot some things that you thought you wanted to keep but are really junk that you can just go ahead and throw away. You don’t need that in your life. When driving on highways, use your cruise control. Speeding creates a lot of accidental acceleration and deceleration - with cruise control on, that’s eliminated. If you stay at a reasonable speed, that’s just the icing on the cake. Don’t idle your vehicle. Idling not only wastes fuel but harms the environment. Restarting your car uses less gas than just a few seconds of idling, so just think about that next time you double park on Lark Street! If you have a storage box or rack on your roof, switch to something that serves the same purpose but that’s rear mounted. It helps your vehicle be more aerodynamic, which saves fuel.
