Your steering wheel is one of the features of your vehicle that you touch each and every time you drive. Therefore, it is not surprising to note that it can become quite dirty since it is constantly being touched and handled. In fact, the constant use can cause the steering wheel to be covered in all kinds of body oil, dirt, and bacteria that we have tracked in from all of the other objects that we touch on a daily basis. Yet, even with all of this outside contamination the steering wheel is generally overlooked when it comes to vehicle maintenance.
However, the truth is that cleaning your steering wheel is actually a relatively simple process and one that should not take you more than a few minutes. All you need is some all-purpose cleaner, a microfiber towel and some warm water. Start by spraying some of the cleaner onto the towel, not the steering. This is important because spraying the wheel directly could cause fluid to leak into the clear plastic in the gauge buster and you will not be able to remove it.
Once you spray the towel, you then use it to wipe down the steering wheel in 360-degree turns in order to give it a good clean. If your steering wheel has not been scrubbed in a while then you could follow that step up by using a toothbrush and a three-to-one mixture of water and all-purpose cleaner to get into the crevices and other areas that need a deeper scrubbing.
After you finish scrubbing wipe the steering wheel down using a microfiber towel and warm water in order to remove any excess cleaner from the wheel. You can even take things up a notch if you would line by using a steam machine if you have access to one.
