Kia Motors yet again achieved a major accomplishment. They were recognized as J.D. Power’s second highest-ranking brand in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study (IQS). Since just last year, Kia scored 20 points higher, allowing it to jump four positions to the number two slot out of 33 brands in the study.
Their jump was fueled by the Soul and Sorento with additional help from the Optima, Sportage, Rio, Sedona, and Cadenza.
“We believe the J.D. Power report leaves no doubt that Kia builds world-class vehicles, and the results are especially gratifying as the IQS study truly reflects the voice of our customers,” said Michael Sprague, Chief Operating Officer and EVP, Kia Motors America. “Kia’s rise is one of the industry’s greatest success stories and is driven by the hard work of thousands of team members around the world as well as our long-term strategy to concentrate on quality, strengthen the brand and elevate the ownership experience.”
Thanks to sales more than doubling over the past six years, Kia has managed to steadily climb in the rankings from year to year. Kia made its power move into the top 10 in the 2013 rankings, thanks to the Sportage and Soul, which both earned top spots in their segments.
This year is J.D. Power IQS’s 29th year and each year they generate results with feedback from drives in 26 segments. After the first 90 days, owners give their feedback for engine and transmission performance, driving experience, and quality related problems.

Obsessively Crafted: Wax Surf Co.
Kia has just released another video in it’s ‘Obsessively Crafted in New York’ YouTube Series. This episode takes a look at Wax Surf Co, two friends that make custom, handmade surfboards out of New York City. They put hours of careful work and handmade attention into every single board, which is the same attention to detail that Kia likes to put into each 2016 Kia Optima. To learn more details and hear the story from the owners themselves watch the video.
2016 Kia Sedona
Going into its second generation of models, the 2016 Kia Sedona puts a new spin on what it means to be a minivan. With the ability to seat seven or eight people and coming in five different trims, the Sedona is available in a wide range of options. Paired with a six-speed Sportmatic transmission the Sedona has a 3.3-liter V6 engine with 276 horsepower at 6,000rpm as well as generating 248lb-ft of torque at 5,200rpm.
For all the 2016 Sedona models, they come standard with a rear backup camera. Other available features depending on the trim include a more modern looking seat pattern, heated front seats, and eight passenger seating with the Technology package.
Safety is also a high priority, coming standard with features like a traction control system, hill-start assist control, and electronic brake force distribution. Other features like blind spot detection, a forward collision warning system, a rear cross traffic alert, and many more ensure that everyone will be safe.
Convenience will not be overlooked either. The Sedona has available features such as stain repelling and stain releasing fabric, USB charging ports, Kia’s UVO infotainment system, and the ability to download apps from iTunes or Google Play.
The Sedona continues to redefine what it means to be a minivan through innovation in both safety and convenience.
The 2016 Kia Optima is an impressively crafted vehicle that offers a high level of style and luxury along with its premium performance, safety, and efficiency. In order to promote the high-end craftsmanship that went into the creation of this all-new model, Kia has released a new video series on their YouTube page called #ObsessivelyCrafted. In each video of the series, we are introduced to an expert craftsman who makes his or her living by hand crafting products, showing the same attention to detail and level of artistry that Kia designers used when creating the 2016 Optima.
In the first video of the series, we meet Greg Mills, on of the co-founders of Throne Watches in New York City. Greg started this company with three of his best friends a few years ago and they spend their day crafting custom leather watch straps. Greg says that this company formed out of a hobby that they all picked up in learning to work with leather and people began to admire the products that they made, leading them to open a business together. Each piece that they make is hand crafted, complete with their signature hand-stitching and artistry.
You can hear Greg tell the full story of Thron Watches in the video above and look out for the arrival of the 2016 Kia Optima to our showroom here at Destination Kia.
Sales Totals for May 2015 Announced by Kia
For the second year in a row, Kia Motors America (KMA) sold more than 60,000 vehicles throughout the month of May. This year’s sales amounted to 62,433 units, which is 3.9% higher than the 60,087 units that the brand sold during last May. This is especially significant because these are the the only two times in Kia history that monthly sales have topped the 60,000 unit mark. Additionally, the brand’s sales for the year so far have come to 256,815 units, rising by 4.3% over the first five months of last year.
“Kia is never afraid to challenge conventional thinking, and the latest example is our launch of the ‘Summer’s On Us’ sales event in May rather than a traditional Memorial Day promotion, and the record-setting results show it clearly resonated with consumers,” said Michael Sprague, Chief Operating Officer and EVP, KMA.
