At the beginning of June, Kia launched their Obsessively Crafted series as part of the advertising for the 2016 Kia Optima. Through this series, the brand has showcased different companies based in New York that make high-quality hand-crafted items. The message of the series is to bring attention to the detail and passion that goes into making hand-crafted objects. The same attention to detail and passion that Kia engineers and designers used when creating several parts of the 2016 Optima.

The first two videos in the series featured companies that specialize in hand-crafting watches and surfboards and the third and final video features a company called Recycled Brooklyn, located in Brooklyn, NY. This company specializes in creating custom furniture made from reclaimed wood and recycled materials. Co-Founder Steve Loftice shares how he spent 15 years working in an office and never found the fulfilment that he gets from creating objects from scratch.

The Kia brand has released a series of new commercials featuring the all-new 2016 Kia Sedona which has been dubbed the “exciting minivan”. In each of the new commercials, the fun and sporty features that make this impressive model stand out amongst other minivans, are showcased by humorously comparing this model to a sports car.

In a previous blog, we shared the first video in the series which features a teenager asking to borrow his dad’s “Sports Car”, which turns out to be the 2016 Sedona. Now, we have the last two videos, which offer the same sports car theme in order to depict how even as a minivan this model can offer first-class fun and luxury.

Soul EV wireless charging concept

Soul EV wireless charging concept

Since its entry into the market, the Kia Soul EV has proven to be one of the most advanced vehicles in green technology, and everyday Kia works to make the next generation even more advanced than the last. Through their partnership with Mojo Mobility, Inc., a company focused on wireless power, Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center, Inc., (HATCI) was presented with a grant for researching and creating a system capable of wirelessly charging an electric vehicle. Provided by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy and Renewable Energy (EERE), Vehicle Technologies (VT) program, the grant aims to translate the past success at Mojo Mobility and HATCI to this project. Mojo Mobility is already a company with a strong background in wireless charging technology, allowing various devices to charge, even with imperfect alignment.

“HATCI is honored to be selected as a partner with the DOE,” said Dr. Sung Hwan Cho, president, HATCI.  “Innovative technologies such as this align well with one of our core goals, which is to create a vehicle experience that is intuitive and easy for the consumer.”

With an added wireless charging system, the Kia Soul EV would become even more convenient for the owner, allowing for easier charging after already eliminating gas station trips. On top of that, it would allow for a smaller battery pack to possibly be used, reducing the weight of the vehicle.

Already through two phases of testing, the project has already developed a working energy transmitter on the ground with a receiver on the vehicle operating at 92 percent efficiency. Once the third phase kicks off, it will test actual system performance in the real world, with positive projected results.

Kia Motors America (KMA) recently became the most-awarded brand in the 2015 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards (VSA) with four of their models being recognized. Among the four awarded Kia models was the all-new K900 luxury sedan, which received the most prestigious award: the President’s Award. This award is especially notable as this marks only the third time in the VSAs nineteen-year history that a vehicle has been presented with it.  The other three Kia winners included the 2015 Cadenza in the Large Car segment, the 2015 Soul in the Compact Car segment, and the 2015 Sportage in the Compact Crossover SUV segment.

“We are honored that four of our world-class vehicles have earned AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, affirming Kia’s ongoing commitment to design, craftsmanship and the ownership experience,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning, KMA.  “While Cadenza, K900, Soul and Sportage each have their own personalities, together they represent the collective strength of the entire Kia model line.  We’re especially proud of K900’s recognition as Kia continues to move upmarket and compete with long-standing luxury brands.”

The VSAs are presented each year to vehicles that scored the highest overall satisfaction rating based on a survey of new vehicle owners. For the 2015 model year evaluation, over 66,000 new owners participated in the survey that asked them questions about their model within 50 different attributes.

The 2015 Kia Sedona is not your typical minivan. Kia has redesigned this impressive new model in order to give it a sportier look and feel, making this model one that truly stands out. In order to promote the new sportier design, the brand released a new advertisement that highlights the new model’s new look in a humorous way.

In the new spot, a teenage boy asks his father if he can borrow his “sports car” for his date. While the father initially gives him a hard time, he does ultimately agree to let his son take the car. We then see the boy arrive at his date’s house and view the reactions of her parents when they see that the car he has arrived in is, in fact, the 2015 Kia Sedona.

Watch the video above to see the new advertisement and then come into Destination Kia to learn more about the 2015 Kia Sedona if you live near Albany, Schenectady, Clifton Park, Queensbury or Kingston, NY.
