Kia Motors America Announces July Sales
For the sixth time in seven months Kia Motors America (KMA) has set a new sales record with their best-ever performance in July. Overall, sales for last month were up 6.5 percent reaching a final monthly total of 59,969 units. Several of the brands models also reported double-digit increases over their sales from July of last year.
“Showroom traffic and sales have shot up over the last six weeks since J.D. Power recognized Kia as the highest scoring nameplate in the industry for initial quality and bestowed four APEAL awards to our world-class offerings in some of the largest and most competitive segments,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA. “With the market cooling and customers looking for smart choices, these recent accolades reflect the satisfaction of our owners – many of whom are new to the Kia brand – and help strengthen our position as so much more than simply a value leader.”
July Totals:
- Sales of the Cadenza totaled 335 units
- Sales of the Sedona were up 37 percent with 5,037 units
- Sales of the Rio were up 50 percent with 3,331 units
- Sales of the Sportage were up 53 percent with 8,111 units
- Sales of the Soul totaled 13,157 units
- Sales of the Forte were up 31 percent with 10,303 units
- Sales of the Sorento were up 1 percent with 9,749 units
- Sales of the Optima totaled 9,780 units

AutoPacific Recognizes Kia Optima & Sedona

Not one, but two vehicles from Kia Motors America (KMA) were named the winners of their segments in the 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards (IVA) from AutoPacific. The 2016 Optima was selected as the winner in the midsize car category while the 2016 Sedona was selected as the winner in the minivan category.
“We are proud that our vehicles have exceeded the expectations of our customers and that AutoPacific has recognized the Optima and Sedona for the second time this summer with the Ideal Vehicle Awards,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning, Kia Motors America. “Kia is constantly evolving and finding ways to suit the needs and wants of our customers. We are thrilled to see the incredibly high level of satisfaction our customers are experiencing with our vehicles.”
The IVAs from AutoPacific are conducted based on the responses from new vehicle owners who evaluate their overall satisfaction and opinions of their vehicles after the first 90 days of ownership. For this year’s awards more than 65,000 owners of new 2015 and 2016 vehicles from a variety of manufacturers participated in the survey. The owners evaluated their vehicles within 15 key categories such as safety features, ride and handling, technology, interior storage, and power and acceleration.

J.D. Power has released the results of their 2016 Initial Quality Study™ (IQS) and for the first time in 27 years the highest ranking brand was a non-luxury brand. The highest-ranking brand was none other than Kia Motors, earning this spot by achieving the highest initial quality score for the entire automotive industry. Additionally, the 2016 Kia Soul and 2016 Kia Sportage were named the highest ranking vehicles in their individual segments. The results of the IQS are determined by measuring the overall satisfaction reported by new-vehicle owners following the first 90 days of ownership. The owners report any issues with their models and J.D Power calculates a score for each model based on the number of problems reported for every 100 vehicles (PP100). Modeled with a lower PP100 are given a higher rating.
“Manufacturers are currently making some of the highest quality products we’ve ever seen,” said Renee Stephens, vice president of U.S. automotive quality at J.D. Power. “Tracking our data over the past several years, it has become clear that automakers are listening to the customer, identifying pain points and are focused on continuous improvement. Even as they add more content, including advanced technologies that have had a reputation for causing problems, overall quality continues to improve.”
For the second straight year, the 2016 Kia Soul topped the Compact MPV segment with a score of 72 PP100. Additionally, this model was also the highest-ranking vehicle for the entire Kia lineup and is now ranked among the 10 highest-scoring vehicles for the whole automotive industry.
For the third time in four years the Kia Sportage received the highest ranking in the small SUV segment with a score of 85 PP100. This model had the least amount of design issues reported for its segment and saw significant improvement in problems reported for Audio/Communication/Entertainment/Navigation.

2016 Kia Optima Named A KBB.com Best Buy
Destination Kia already knew that the 2016 Kia Optima was an incredible vehicle and one that we knew our customers from Albany, Schenectady, Clifton Park, Queensbury, or Kingston, NY would love for its incredible design, spacious interior, and long list of standard features. Now, we are pleased to tell you that the impressive qualities of the 2016 Optima have been validated even more thanks to Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com. The company has announced their annual Best Buy Awards and this vehicle was selected as the top model in the midsize car segment!
The 12 winners included on this annual list are determined by KBB.com following a year-long evaluation process through which they collected and compared data from over 300 new-car models. From that initial list, the vehicles were narrowed down to 49 finalists and then the 12 overall winners for each segment were chosen. Each winner represents the vehicle in that segment that KBB.com feels is the best overall option for new car buyers.

Kia Motors America (KMA) has announced yet another update to their UVO platform which will include free Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ software updates that will be available on eligible vehicles that have the compatible navigation system or UVO3 systems. All customers with vehicles that are eligible for the free upgrade will be notified through email by the end of this month. They will then be directed to myuvo.com to check vehicle eligibility and find a step-by-step set of instructions on how to download the software to their vehicle. You must be regisetered at myuvo.com in order to receive the notification about this update.

2017 Kia Sorento Earns Top Safety Pick + Rating
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given the 2017 Kia Sorento a Top Safety Pick + rating. This all-new mid-size SUV earned this highest-possible rating thanks to its impressive performance in the IIHS crashworthiness tests and the addition of a new optional automatic braking system.
The 2017 Sorento earned “good” ratings in each of the five tests which include the small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The available automatic braking system also earned a “superior” rating to help clinch this highest-possible safety rating.
When the vehicle is equipped with the available system it was able to avoid a collision when tested out on the 12 mph and 25 mph track tests.
“These results are a clear indication that Kia places a high priority on safety by offering advanced crash avoidance technologies and enhancing vehicle structure through the use of advanced high-strength steel,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, KMA. “We are proud that the Sorento received strong ratings across the board, and having earned the prestigious TSP+ award bolsters our strong safety record and the integrity of our products.”
A few of the driver-assistance systems that are available on the 2017 Kia Sorento include Lane Departure Warning System, Rear Parking Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, High-Beam Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, HID headlights with Dynamic Bending Light technology, and Blind Spot Detection.
