• Always check the weather before heading out especially for long-distance travels 
• Accelerate and decelerate slowly 
• Increase your following distance to five or six seconds 
• Don’t power up or stop when going up a hill 
• Drive slowly and take your time 
• Be prepared, pack an emergency kit 
• Always keep a half tank of gas in the winter 
• If you can avoid it, don’t bring your vehicle to a stop
