While October may be well underway we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the incredible sales month that Kia Motors America celebrated at the end of September. A total of 49,220 units were sold just during that month bringing the entire total for the first three-quarters of the year up to 491,765 units. This year-to-date total is 3.3 percent higher than where the brand was at the same time in 2015 which also makes it their best-ever sales for the for the first three-quarters.
“On the strength of double-digit gains for the Rio, Forte, Sportage and Sedona nameplates through the first nine months of the year, Kia’s upward trajectory continues despite the industry showing signs of little growth,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA.
September Results:
- Sales of the Sportage increased 58.6 percent with 6,282 units
- Sales of the Rio were up 44.7 percent with 2,141 units
- Sales of the Sedona increased 0.39 percent to reach 3,051 units
- Sales of the Optima came to 9,010 units
- Sales of the Soul came to 11,885 units
- Sales of the Forte were up 53.2 percent with 8,256 units
- Sales of the Sorento came to 8,137 units
- Sales of the Cadenza came to 390 units

All-Electric Kia Niro a Possibility
We could be seeing an all-electric version of the Kia Niro crossover in the near future according to Clean Technica. That means the brand will be adding the Niro, which has sold over 1,000 units since August, to the ranks of the Soul and Ioniq EVs.
According to Autoblog, “Kia has sold more than 1,000 Niro hybrid vehicles since that model debuted in August. An all-electric Niro would be based on the same platform as the Kia Ioniq. That model has hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric variants, reflecting what Kia said earlier this year was a three-pronged attack to broaden the Ioniq’s exposure. The all-electric version of the Ioniq, which debuted in South Korea earlier this year and is slated to start sales in the US by the end of 2016, has a 28-kilowatt-hour battery pack that provides a single-charge range of about 110 miles.”
There is one thing you can be sure of, if there is going to be a new electric model in the Kia line up, Destination Kia will have it!

Kia is Always Full of Surprises
Some people consider Kia to still be a young brand with a lot to learn and a lot of catching up to do. Those people would probably be surprised to know that Kia is the fastest growing automotive brand in the last decade, that they’ve won 60 design awards in the last 10 years, and that it received the “Highest Ranked Small SUV in Initial Quality” from J.D. Power. If that’s in the last decade, can you imagine what’s in store for the next? That’s why they say Kia still has the power to surprise.
