It happens every year. Once summer is over, the days get shorter, and soon enough we’re all commuting home to Albany, Schenectady, Clifton Park, Queensbury and Kingston, NY in the dark. With this comes a few new hazards and things you should do to be prepared for the trip. Check them out below and travel safe!

  1. Get enough sleep. Being tired behind the wheel is dangerous and a huge distraction. Fit in a nap at lunch or rest your eyes before taking off at night.
  2. Have a clear view. If you can’t see around you, you’re a danger to yourself and everyone else on the road. You might not notice in the light of day, but once headlights hit your windshield at night, you’ll see streaks and smudges you didn’t know were there.
  3. Stay back a bit. It’s hard to see if something is in the road at night, people tend to drive slower and quick braking can happen. Leave enough room between you and the person in front of you to stay safe.
  4. Get the most out of your headlights by aiming them. If your headlights are in other driver’s eyes, or lighting up front lawns, they aren’t lighting your path. Come to Destination Kia and we’ll get them aimed properly.
  5. Keep your eyes moving. Our depth perception isn’t that great in the dark, that means your eyes will be working harder. And harder still if you’re staring in one direction.
  6. Turn your interior lights down as much as possible. They will compete with the outside making it hard for you to see. It’s also a good idea to avoid looking at oncoming traffic lights.

While October may be well underway we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the incredible sales month that Kia Motors America celebrated at the end of September. A total of 49,220 units were sold just during that month bringing the entire total for the first three-quarters of the year up to 491,765 units. This year-to-date total is 3.3 percent higher than where the brand was at the same time in 2015 which also makes it their best-ever sales for the for the first three-quarters.

“On the strength of double-digit gains for the Rio, Forte, Sportage and Sedona nameplates through the first nine months of the year, Kia’s upward trajectory continues despite the industry showing signs of little growth,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA.

September Results:

  • Sales of the Sportage increased 58.6 percent with 6,282 units
  • Sales of the Rio were up 44.7 percent with 2,141 units
  • Sales of the Sedona increased 0.39 percent to reach 3,051 units
  • Sales of the Optima came to 9,010 units
  • Sales of the Soul came to 11,885 units
  • Sales of the Forte were up 53.2 percent with 8,256 units
  • Sales of the Sorento came to 8,137 units
  • Sales of the Cadenza came to 390 units
